Army of the Dead is an upcoming American zombie film directed by Zack Snyder, with a screenplay co-written with Shay Hatten and Joby Harold, based on a story by Snyder. Production[edit]

The film was initially announced and planned as a sequel to the 2004 film Dawn of the Dead with Universal Studios and Warner Bros. Entertainment and was to be directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.[3] In January 2019, it was announced that Netflix had acquired the rights to the project from Warner Bros., with Zack Snyder set to direct from a script by himself and Joby Harold.[1] The film was set to commence production in mid-2019 with a budget of $90 million.[1]Dave Bautista was cast in April 2019,[2] while Ella Purnell, Ana de la Reguera, Theo Rossi, and Huma Qureshi joined the cast in May.[4] In July 2019, Garret Dillahunt, Raúl Castillo, Omari Hardwick, Chris D'Elia, Hiroyuki Sanada, Nora Arnezeder, Matthias Schweighöfer, Samantha Jo and Rich Cetrone joined the cast of the film.[5]

Principal photography began on July 15, 2019, in Los Angeles, California, and Albuquerque, New Mexico.[6][7] Filming also took place at the now closed Atlantic Club Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey.[8]
