Some 2017 (and beyond) shotguns were buffed more than others.

Numbers below are without any damage buffs

  1. Stampede: use the scavenger equivalent because it looks cooler. Has about 70% more dps than a max bobcat.

  2. The Bear: being so slow to fire, I didnt like the feel of waiting for the second shot to proc my damage to conditional. Epic needs to add new rollable options for the last slot because of this (I’m ignoring almost every sniper since the change because of this too). Other than that, it does about 30% more dps than a maxed bobcat

  3. Longarm: good because of range. Would recommend if doing a shotgun only loadout. Aim for the head, this gun actually lets you do that. About 20% more dps than a maxed bobcat with half-headshots

  4. Vacuum tube shotgun: ive always wanted to use this. Pellets are tighter than the animation and reticle suggests (I hit max damage numbers at 1.5 tiles way more often than other same reticle shotties). About 60% more dps than max bobcat

  5. Backbreaker: this thing is still bad. Besides trash damage, the impact doesn’t come into play much. Also, the reticle too big (huge mismatch bc it has high range?) Even though the buff was small for some reason, it has fundamental flaws. Sad because it looks cool.

  6. Dragons breath: a pistol, but still a shotgun. Hardly got buffed. Its basically The Bear but less damage and way, way less up-time for shooting.

  7. Ground Pounder: 100% more dps than bobcat, and accurate, literally no downside

Nov 27, 2018  On top of the addition of Epic and Legendary Pump Shotguns, Epic Games has also decided to use Fortnite's Update 6.31 to tweak the attributes of.

I only used shell-feeders because 75% mag size equates to 75% reload speed as well (because you reload faster to compensate for higher mag size – #justfortnitethings). Rest is crit, crit dmg, element, dmg to snared w/ snare.

I use them not on their own, but I now do what I wish I could do literally anytime before – use an AR or pistol with a shotgun. Covers most ranges in game, and I can pull the big guy out (shotgun) for things that get too close or need to die. Before, shotguns were basically the same DPS as AR’s / pistols or worse, so there was no point. Now that most are useful, more fun loadouts exist. I care more about theme and aesthetics, so I pick guns that look similar (like my tacticool military shotty with a tacticool military pistol) and it adds a lot of flavor to gameplay for me

As always, context matters – the %’s above are assuming you hit the pellets within max dmg range. Not really an issue but don’t just try to snipe with shotguns lol
