- Jan 01, 2014 However, opening a.dmg to get whatever is inside really is as simple as double-clicking the.dmg file. If it's an app in the.dmg, it will be obvious when opened. Or, you could check at the site where you downloaded your.dmg file. That will likely give you actual steps for doing what you want to do.

Nov 14, 2019 In order to create a bootable copy of the OS X Mavericks installer, you must locate the InstallESD.dmg file that's hidden in the OS X Mavericks installer you downloaded from the Mac App Store. This image file contains a bootable system and the files necessary to install OS X Mavericks. However VirtualBox does not officially support creating Mac virtual machines. Last time I checked using a standard Mac installer in Virtualbox even if from a dog would not work because VirtualBox does not emulate the SMC chip in a 'real' Mac. Both Parallels and VMWare Fusion do emulate this and therefore can run Mavericks virtual machines with no problems both also can directly build a Mavericks virtual machine from the downloaded app so you don't even have to make a disk image to do this.
