Sharpness is an enchantment applied to a sword or axe that increases melee damage.
- 1Usage
- 1.1Damage per hit
Usage[edit]
List of Enchantments Aqua Affinity. Increases underwater mining rate. Allows the Player to mine blocks at normal speed while still. Swimming causes the speed to decrease up to 5 times. In 1.9, Sharpness was reduced from adding +1.25 damage per level to +0.5 damage per level, and the Strength effect was changed from +130% to +3 hp. However, bows remain unchanged and increase damage by 25% per level (50% for level 1).
In Java Edition, Sharpness adds 1 extra damage for the first level, and 0.5 ( x 0.25) damage for each additional level.
In Bedrock Edition, Sharpness adds 1.25 ( x 0.625) damage for each level.
An anvil is required to apply Sharpness V to wooden, stone, iron, and diamond tools. Golden tools, Netherite tools, and books can get Sharpness V through enchanting.
Damage per hit[edit]
These tables detail how much damage is done per attack based on the level of enchantment used, assuming the target is not wearing armor and the attack is fully charged.[Java Edition only] Critical damage is in parentheses.

Today I am going to show you how to get custom damage on any item in minecraft to make you OP!
To get yourself a really OP diamond sword that kills any normal mob in one shot (and does 999999 damage!) with one command!:
/give @p minecraft:diamond_sword 1 0 {AttributeModifiers:[{Operation:0,UUIDLeast:1,UUIDMost:1,Amount:999999,AttributeName:generic.attackDamage,Name:Barrier}],display:{Name:”Insta-Kill”}}
You can edit this command to make it cooler. If you change the Amount:999999 number to a different number you will change the attack damage of the item to that number.
You can change the word in-between the speech marks in {Name:”Insta-Kill”}} to rename the item to whatever you like
You can change the item by going to the section that says minecraft:diamond_sword and change the name after the colon to any item. If the item has spaces in it’s name, then you will have to put an underscore where the space would usually be. Example: minecraft:iron_sword

Hey Guys to make the command work in 1.7 and up you have to get rid of the ' ' in the command. If you can't be bothered to go through the command to edit, just copy this.
/give @p minecraft:diamond_sword 1 0 {AttributeModifiers:[{Operation:0,UUIDLeast:1,UUIDMost:1,Amount:999999,AttributeName:generic.attackDamage,Name:Barrier}],display:{Name:Insta-Kill}}109/02/2017 3:37 amLevel 1:New Networkamazingface456
