- Information about the Boss HP is aviable but not about resistances afaik. If you want to exploit the bosses on the higher difficulties you should do it in the way of survivability vs dmg output vs movability. But you don't have to think about killing diablo with Ice spells instead of arcane.

Melee weapons are weapons used in hand-to-hand combat. These differ from Caster Weapons and Ranged Weapons. The full list of weapon types and functions is not known, so consider this a provisional categorization.
I guess the game simply assumes, that only 1/3 your foes are Elites, only 1/3 do Melee or Ranged Dmg. The items giving -Melee/Ranged and -Elite Dmg should hopefully still give a flat damage reduction as it should be, but are simply treated not that way in the Calculator, although it doesn't make sense at all. Can't agree more, like a 100k hp and 1000 loh w/ no res or armor. Comparing to the other model having 50k hp and 1000 loh w/ 50% dam reduced from res and armor in total. They have same EHP 100k, but the second one can get 1000 hp reg pet hit equal to 2000 EHP when the first one only gets 1000 EHP per hit.
Also see the Class-Specific Weapons info, since many weapon types in Diablo III are stratified by classes.
They only logged in 4 instances and the in-game description on the top left says 'to deal 100 magic or pure damage to enemies in 5 seconds'.So i was wondering if the description is wrong or my interpretation was wrong or the compedium is bugged? Dota 2 dmg in single attack quest tuck.

- Axes -- One-handed and two-handed versions.
- Fist -- Fist weapons are used by Monks for hand-to-hand combat, and can be dual-wielded. They are similar to the Assassin claws from Diablo 2.
- Maces -- One-handed and larger two-handed types are available.
- Polearms -- Large two-handed weapons. Barbarian only?
- Staves -- Short staves are like larger wands, and can be held one-handed by spell-casters. Longer staves are Monk weapons.
- Spears -- Barbarians only?
- Swords -- One-handed and two-handed have been seen. Some classes can not use 2H swords.
Melee Non-Weapons[editedit source]
The following items are equipped in the weapon slot and may be used for melee, but only as a last resort. Their modifiers work to improve spell-casting, not physical damage. Only Wizards and Witch Doctors can use these Caster Weapons.
- Daggers -- A wand-like mage weapon, distinct from swords in Diablo 3.
- Orbs -- A Wizard-only item that's held in the off-hand. Not used for blocking; just bonus properties.
- Wands -- Wizards and Witch Doctors only.
