Torment 1 difficulty slider from RoS beta.

Torment refers to the highest ten levels of difficulty in Diablo 3 (as of D3v2) and Reaper of Souls. The game officially designates Torment levels with Roman Numerals, while players generally use T#, much as they use GR# to refer to the level of Greater Rift.

There were initially just six levels, Torment 1-6, until Patch 2.3 in August 2015 added Torment VII up through Torment X, to preserve some challenge in the face of power creep.

There are no content changes as players move up into the higher levels of Torment. The game remains the same, but players will find more and better items and other rewards, and higher difficulty increases monster hit points, damage, experience value, gold dropped, and more.[1]

The Torment difficulties mark the end game goal for most players. Only on Torment can the best items (Torment-only) be found, only on Torment can ingredients of the Infernal Machine drop, and the general difficulty and rewards accelerate to a pace that experienced players desire. It can be a challenge to gear up to survive in higher levels of Torment, especially for Hardcore players, but most players consider the struggle worth it.

Death's Breath[editedit source]

Deaths Breath are required for most crafting, enchanting, and Kanai's Cube recipes. They became a much more valuable commodity in Patch 2.3, when the number of DBs was increased for most recipes, and Kanai's Cube was added to the game.

Blizzard provided the drop rates for Deaths Breaths when complaints about their infrequency were voiced shortly after the launch of Reaper of Souls. These are the chances for a DB to drop from any valid source; opening a golden chest, killing an Elite monster (yellow or blue), or killing most types of Treasure Goblin.
